FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 8, 2009 – New Port Richey, FL - The “Scales for Tails” Fishing Tournament, presented by Marshall Thomas Burnett, received tremendous support from anglers, animal lovers and businesses raising over $17,000 for the animals! 100% of these proceeds will benefit the animals at the SPCA Suncoast, a non-profit animal shelter located in New Port Richey, FL.

The tournament kicked off with the Captain’s Party & Benefit Event on October 1st at Catches Waterfront Grille where guests were treated to fantastic food, great music, a silent auction with items totaling over $8,500 in value and a special video created by the animals at the SPCA Suncoast.  Guests also enjoyed a huge custom cake donated by Grandma’s Candy Kitchen.  This awesome cake was actually made up of over 245 cupcakes and served out of dog bowls!

Much of the success of the event was made possible by the 29 corporate sponsors including the title sponsor, Marshall Thomas Burnett, and Cheney Brothers Inc. & Catches Waterfront Grille, who donated all of the food for the Benefit on October 1st and the Tournament on October 3rd.

The inaugural catch and release tournament for Snook, Redfish and Trout had over 75 registered anglers.  Over $3,500 in Abu Garcia reels & Redbone rods were awarded to 18 participants in both the guided and individual divisions.

“I am so grateful for the many companies and individuals who embraced the event” said Event Chairperson and SPCA Volunteer Traci Theis. “As a non-profit agency the SPCA Suncoast relies solely on donations and fundraising events to continue to care for our community’s animals in need.  The proceeds from this event are going to have a tremendous impact on the lives of many animals.”
